Hi, I’m kara.

I believe stories are magic. They have the power to heal, transform, entertain, and illuminate the hidden threads that connect us all. Whether I’m writing a novel, guiding a yoga class, or leading a sound bath, I am fascinated by the same question: What does it mean to be human, and how do we find our way back to one another?

I am a writer of women’s fiction and stories that explore the beautiful, messy complexities of family, love, hope, resilience, and the mysteries that shape our lives. My debut YA issue-driven novel, Finding Pony, was published in 2015 and was inspired by my 20 years working in the adoption field. With a Master’s degree in Social Work, I spent two decades writing home studies for more than 300 families and working alongside children and families navigating foster care, adoption, and difficult seasons of life. Those experiences deeply shaped my understanding of relationships, belonging, and the power of connection.

After stepping away from publishing for several years while raising my five children and working in social services, I returned to the stories that had never stopped calling me. I now write women’s fiction filled with heart, mystery, complicated families, and the hope that even broken things can be transformed. My debut women’s fiction novel, Paradise Flat, is currently on submission.

I am also a yoga teacher and sound bath facilitator, and I love creating spaces where people can slow down, return to their bodies, and reconnect with a sense of peace and presence. Teaching yoga has become a beautiful companion to writing—a different way of exploring the same themes that inspire my stories: mindfulness, compassion, healing, and the invisible threads that bind us together.

I live in Central California, where I spend my days writing, teaching yoga, hiking the Sierra Nevadas, puttering around our country home, and occasionally indulging in reality TV (yes, I’m a Housewives fan). My husband and I love traveling to visit our five children, who have scattered across the country and keep life interesting.

I am a member of SCBWI, an active participant in my local writing community, and a lifelong student of storytelling, mindfulness, and the human heart.
